Microsoft Quality of Experience
Quality of Experience Monitoring Server
As part of its commitment to providing high-quality voice solutions, Microsoft also announced the Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 Quality of Experience Monitoring Server, a comprehensive tool to monitor voice and video quality. IT administrators can use the server to quickly troubleshoot voice and video performance issues, enabling them to effectively implement and manage solutions that provide superior audio quality. The server provides real-time updates, alerts and detailed analysis of network performance to accurately reflect users’ experience based on the endpoint they’re using. As a result, administrators can proactively address problematic issues that may arise while monitoring voice and video quality anywhere and anytime, without needing expensive network management solutions. More information about Microsoft’s approach to quality of experience is available at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=05625af1-3444-4e67-9557-3fd5af9ae8d1&displaylang=en.

Upgrade OCS2007 Public Beta to OCS2007 RTM
We use OCS2007 Public Beta (PB) for a couple of weeks. Absolutely the most wonderful new product in my perspective.
As described earlier RTM is released and customers needs to upgrade Public Beta to RTM. Of course this is only for customers who deployed PB in the production environment. Public Beta is only supported in test environments. In our case we know that the Schema wasn’t changed at all from Public Beta bits. So we deployed it right away :-)
You can use these steps if the following is true:
1. You migrate from Public Beta to RTM eval (180 days) bits.
2. You do not need to backup users contact lists.
3. You are not migrating from existing pools.
In this post I will describe the steps to take for upgrading to RTM.
1. Backup your Active Directory and System States of your OCS2007 servers.
2. Backup your RTC databases (same for Standard and Enterprise deployments).
3. Submit your transaction logging in the RTC database.
4. If your OCS servers are running on Virtual Server 2005 (R2/SP1) snapshot your VHD's.
5. ATTENTION: there is no possibility to extract your contact list or custom groups. This is only in our case because we do not migrate users between Enterprise Pools. Due to schema changes (PB >RTM) this database cannot be re-used. It must be dropped and a new one created.
Public Beta:
Db schema version is 24
Db sproc version is 50
RTM:
Db schema version to 26
Setting Db sproc version to 56
6. Remove your current Enterprise Pool by clicking Remove Pool. Check "Force removal of Enterprise Pool". After removal your current users will be moved to "Unassigned Users".
7. Stop and disable all Office Communications Server services. After disabling restart your OCS server(s).
8. Remove through Add and Remove Programs “Office Communications Server 2007 Public Beta”.
9. Extract the OCS2007RTM evaluation bits (180 time bombed version) to your local hdd drive.
10. Open lcscmd and proces the following commands:
1. D:\setup\i386>lcscmd /forest /action:SchemaPrep
2. D:\setup\i386>lcscmd /forest /action:ForestPrep
3. D:\setup\i386>lcscmd /domain /action:DomainPrep
**Example: is my installation path. Make sure all commands are completed successful.
11. Create a new Enterprise Pool and configure it. You can reassign your old EE-pool certificate.
12. Add your OCS2007 server roles back into the configured pool and reuse your previous created Service Accounts. Of course you can create new SA-accounts if you want.
13. Start all OCS2007RTM services.
14. Check your login procedure with MOC and check your DNS (SRV) settings. Make sure you run the validation wizard for all your Edge Roles.
There you go.

OCS2007 legal upgrade path
Just for the record but very important for installing Office Communications Server 2007 in your production environment.
At this moment there are 2 OCS2007 bits available:
(1) bits located at MSDN (MSDN product key)
(2) bits located at the Microsoft download site (180 days time bombed)
When installing the MSDN-bits in your production environment there is NO supported upgrade scenario available. This means uninstall your complete environment and reinstall with the correct RTM bits (licensed version)
When installing the RTM-bits evaluation (180 days time bombed) in your production environment there is an legal upgrade path to RTM Full licensed. After 180 days you will upgrade the RTM eval bits with the RTM full licensed bits in an in place upgrade (your configuration settings will be saved)
Additional information on RTM availability:
RTM full licensed bits are only available for TAP participants and customers with an enterprise agreement. Should your organization not have a current enterprise agreement in place with Microsoft, General Availability of the OCS 2007 and MOC 2007 RTM software is scheduled for September 2007.

Schema.ldf in OCS2007PB and RTM
During your schema preparation of deploying Office Communications Server 2007, schema.ldf on your installation source (ISO) is the preconfigured file to upload your Schema attributes within your Active Directory Services Schema.
Today i had an interesting question about: Is there any difference between the Schema attributes extensions in OCS2007PB (Public Beta) and OCS2007RTM (Released to Manu.)
The answer is "yes" but only #descriptions#. Line 3336 and 3390
Line: (3336) Public Beta:
##############################################################
# Adding msRTCSIP-SourceObjectDN to RTCUserPropertySet
##############################################################
now in RTM:

SQL2005SP2 Performance Can Degrade with OCS2007RTM
Today i was reading the Readme of OCS2007RTM. There was an interesting part in that overview.
SQL Server 2005 SP2 Performance Can Degrade Over Time
Issue: When running SQL 2005 SP2 on the back-end server of an Enterprise pool, over time performance can degrade and the total CPU usage increases. This is a known issue with SQL Server 2005 SP2. For more details, see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/927396
Workaround: Use one of the following two options:
Option 1
Use the following steps to add a SQL trace flag for T4618
1. Open SQL Server Configuration Manager: Point to Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005, point to Configuration Tools, and then click SQL Server Configuration Manager.
2. Select RTC SQL server instance in SQL Server 2005 Services, right click on the instance and then click Properties.
3. Click the Advanced Properties tab and Edit Startup Parameters.
4. Append ;-T4618 to the end of the Startup Parameters list (note that startup parameters are separated by semicolons).
Option 2
Or manually add the following registry value:
Name | Value
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\{0}\MSSQLServer\Parameters\SQLArgN | -T4618
(where N is the next SQL parameter number and {0} is the SQL instance name found under the following key below that maps to the RTC instance)
Name | Value
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\Instance Names\SQL
I did implement option 1 and the overall performance was significally better.

Topic's UC event e-office
As you can read in my previous post we organize an UC-event on 27th of september. We also demonstrate the new development platform behind OCS2007. OCS2007 comes with a bunch of API's. More information on that see: http://blogs.msdn.com/jcalev/archive/2007/05/07/introduction-to-the-ucma-api-part-1-api-overview.aspx
We will demonstrate 2 very nice capabilities of OCS2007. We will also integrate our stuff within MOSS2007.
Topic 1: Automated bot which will integrate with the Enterprise Search of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
Short description of functionality: search within MOSS2007 looking for IT competence (so looking for people with knowledge of for example "IT infrastructures") The automated bot will re-publish this to the end-user. There is no logical access between the end-user (anonymous) and your MOSS "internal" infrastructure. So great for internet facing websites which you can create with the new version of SharePoint (2007 aka MOSS)
Topic 2: Sending SharePoint alerts through IM
Short description of functionality: No, alerts emailed from SharePoint within you inbox but managed by IM. We will build functionality in it to choose whether or not receive alerts through email. So it's the decision of your information worker. IM messages will be pushed by OCS2007! We will build our code to finally deliver an Timer Job for SharePoint.
So....stay tuned on this blog! We will publish our demo material (code)
