image

Save the date en registeer nu. (100 tickets beschikbaar gratis) (hier registreren) (NL only) #lync @ucvug_nl.

  • Business Case e-office migratie R2>Lync (30 mins)
  • Xander Kupers (Portfolio Lync Plantronics) (15 mins)
  • Jan Zoetemelk (Portfolio Lync Polycom) (15 mins)

OCS Chat Solution Extends Benefits of Unified Communications to Web Site Visitors

Many companies use Microsoft® Office Communications Server 2007 R2 to enrich internal communications. Now e-office WebChat extends those benefits to users of a company’s Web site. Web visitors use the application to initiate a chat with the first available employee in the appropriate department. Companies can inexpensively extend existing infrastructure by using e-office WebChat to offer group online presence and direct communication.

Business Needs

Source: (link) entire article, Official product page: (link).

imagee-office, based in Houten, the Netherlands, is a software company that helps people communicate, collaborate, and coordinate in easier ways.

As a Microsoft® Gold Certified Partner and Voice Specialized Partner, e-office offers unified communications solutions using Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2. “Our clients have found significant value in Office Communications Server 2007 R2. “It provides an outstanding infrastructure for extending unified communications capabilities unlike any other competitive platforms.”

For example, potential customers visiting a sales-oriented Web site often want to talk to an expert before deciding to buy. Or existing customers may need to speak to a support person in order to solve their problems immediately. But few Web sites offer a chat option; most potential customers have to send an e-mail message and wait for a response.
Some Web sites do offer chat features, where the Web user asks a question that can be directed to someone in the organization. Such functionality, however, requires that the company invest in a separate chat system, rather than build on Office Communications Server 2007 R2.

Conversely, many organizations enjoy the presence features of Office Communications Server 2007 R2—the indicators that somebody may be traveling, in a meeting, or available to talk—and wish they could extend presence beyond the organization. But a visitor to a Web site, initiating a relationship with the company, usually doesn’t have a particular contact in mind. Instead, most visitors want to connect with anyone who has expertise and is available. Thus, e-office sought a more effective way for a Web user to find someone to chat with. More broadly, it hoped to expand the benefits of Office Communications Server 2007 R2 and offer them beyond the organization.

NEW: OCS webchat can now also be integrated in your own business software! Ask for the possibilities. joachim.farla@e-office.com.

Lync Server 2010 (RC) (Replication Issues)

clip_image002#lync #XDS Since two weeks now we are running Microsoft Lync Server 2010 (RC) in our demo environment. The entire install went smooth but after installing all the different components we ran into a issue which was hard to tackle. Good time to give you some insights. Our environment: we setup a Windows Server 2008 R2 DC + CA and setup a Microsoft Lync Server 2010 (RC) on a separate box connected in a private network. After installing the Microsoft Lync 2010 (RC) imageon the DC and installing the Lync 2010 (RC) on the Lync Server itself we were unable to sign in (see the printscreen in the first line). The fist thought came up in my mind was incorrect DNS entries. After checking that, that was ok. After that we went to the LSCP (Lync Server Control Panel) and checked if our users where provisioned correctly. We also checked the service state of our running components. All went up “green”. Also Mina Nagy suggestion did not work to change the domain name in a domain FQDN.

If you would to know which users are provisioned you can do this by Powershell (LSMS) btw. To do this go start Lync Server Management Shell (LSMS) and type: get-csuser. After that you will see the entire list in your organization of SIP enabled users. After resetting the password multiple times and restarting the Lync 2010 (RC) client multiple times something changed in the logon procedure. We got a login prompt in the Lync 2010 (RC) client!  That really suggest that the user was there.

image

After setting up logging in the Lync 2010 (RC) client some interesting records showed up:

1. SIP/2.0 404 Not Found ms-diagnostics: 1003;reason="User does not exist";TargetUri="contoso.com";source="DEMO-LS-LS01.contoso.com"

2. SIP/2.0 401 Unauthorized (no specific ms-diagnostic message).

This information gives me the direction that maybe something with the XDS replication went wrong. Lets go back to the LSMS and put in the following commando (Get-CsManagementStoreReplicationStatus) PS C:\Users\administrator.DEMO-LS> Get CsManagementStoreReplicationStatus

UpToDate           : False (well there is it!)
ReplicaFqdn        : DEMO-LS-LS.contoso.com
LastStatusReport   :
LastUpdateCreation : 9/23/2010 2:39:25 PM
ProductVersion     : <empty>

The registrar is looking local for the User and can’t find it since replication has failed and most likely never populated the users from CMS. After setting up a trace with the LSLT (Lync Server Logging Tool) I monitored on XDS and then issue the Invoke-csManagementStoreReplication command in LSMS to find out what is going on. (here some lines from my extraction). On the specific share we got a access denied.

TL_ERROR (TF_COMPONENT) XDS_Master_Replicator (MasterReplicationAgent.QueryChang
esImpl:masterreplicationagent.cs(724))  [0]047C.04C0::09/23/2010-21:02:27.769.00

Query changes operation failed. Exception [System.UnauthorizedAccessExceptio
n: Access to the path '\\demo-ls-ls\LyncShare\1-CentralMgmt-1\CMSFileStore\xds
-master\working\replication\tmp\e0285292-b325-4e06-aa74-97b32d2d0373' is denied.

We went back to the LSTB (Lync Server Topology Builder) and changed the specific share and re-populated the folder tree. Still no status change while logging in with Lync 2010 (RC). I was really smacking my head to the wall. After some nice conversations with Microsoft (thanks Geoff Clark) we re-installed the Lync Server System Components again from the Lync Server Deployment Wizard (LSDW). Back to LSMS:PS C:\Users\administrator.DEMO-LS> Get-CsManagementStoreReplicationStatus

UpToDate           : True
ReplicaFqdn        : DEMO-LS-LS.contoso.com
LastStatusReport   : 10/1/2010 11:16:40 AM
LastUpdateCreation : 10/1/2010 11:16:35 AM
ProductVersion     : 4.0.7457.0

This blogpost is possible a little bit scrambled for you but it really helps to understand how Microsoft Lync Server 2010 (RC) works and how you troubleshoot Lync. To be honest I really don’t no why the initial share I created during the install was not created correctly. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. After taking all these steps the environment is working perfectly.

BoxedUC with Microsoft Lync Server 2010 (RC) released

(#lync #uc) As Microsoft Lync Server 2010 is still in RC I saw this solution from fabbricadigitale. Please keep in mind Microsoft Lync Server 2010 is still in “development” and only available in (RC). Test this solution for now only in a lab environment. Still I liked this solution. See our blogpost here.

clip_image001BoxedUC is the first all-in-one solution for Unified Communcations bringing a complete suite of services using the power of virtualized environments.

In a market in which the IT proposition is moving towards services ‘on the cloud’, boxedUC represent an innovative model which gives the opportunity to adopt the latest technologies for companies which could not move on the cloud because of bandwidth availability, legal constraints, internal policies, budgets. In this way boxedUC is an opportunity, for SMB and for big companies too, to adopt and join the benefits of unified communications.

Important news is the release of boxedUC with Microsoft Lync Server 2010 (RC) (formerly known as CS”14”) which completes the ‘wave 14’ suite of servers on-board:

  • Exchange 2010 SP1
  • Microsoft Lync Server 2010 (RC)
  • Sharepoint 2010 Foundation
  • MultiUx Self-Governance tool
  • Blackberry Enterprise Server 5

The improvements to the appliance using Microsoft Lync Server 2010 (RC) come both from the end-user point of view and from the architectural point of view:

  • New user interface, improved the usability based on Silverlight
  • Unique client for personal use and webconferencing
  • Improved the telephony features of the system, resulting in an advanced PBX system
  • Improved the software architecture, which results in highest performances and reliability
  • Introduced new web interface for Web Conferencing

Many aspects linked with the architecture are a big new for the appliance solution; the most important two are:

  • Microsoft Lync Server 2010 (RC) supports virtualization through Hyper-V making boxedUC a 100% Microsoft compliant solution
  • Microsoft Lync Server 2010 (RC) introduces a Powershell management kit wich has been integrated very transparently with the ‘self-governance tool’ developed by fabbricadigitale (see MultiUx www.multiux.com ) which is a strategic component of boxedUC

Thanks to the ‘telephonic’ features of Microsoft Lync Server 2010 (RC), boxedUC has new important applications, starting from the native PBX and PSTN integration functions but in particular the ‘Branch Survivability’ which makes boxedUC an ideal solution for big organizations geographically distributed.

An other important new features comes from the self-governance toll, branded MultiUX, which is an integrated tool, accessible via web console, mobile interface or SDK, to manage transparently Active Directory objects, Exchange and Microsoft Lync (RC) recources: the Ethical Wall.

The Ethical Wall is a specific control for Microsoft Lync federations between the local organization with external ones; it allows to to manage the authorized ‘routes’ of communication among users, by controlling different protocols, preserving the privacy and confidentiality of the users and guaranteeing that real-time communications happen only between the units which have really to communicate. I’ve not seen this before.

At this moment boxedUC release 2 is build up with the official RC version of Microsoft Lync Server 2010; it will be updated immediately with the RTM version as soon as available.

Introduction video Ferrari Electronic – SBA configuration / installation

Survivable telephony in branch offices

Microsoft Lync Server 2010 (former CS14) is the first release which
will support remote site telephony even on WAN outages. Microsoft
has defined an appliance type of products which contains
all functions needed for telephony in a branch office – therefore
called “survivable branch appliance”.

OfficeMaster Survivable Branch Appliance is based on high quality
industrial grade server hardware (HP ProLiant) which runs
Windows Server 2008 R2 together with Microsoft branch office
components like Registrar and Mediation Server. All necessary
software is preinstalled and activation can be done through an
easy to use web UI by a local technician.

Introduction: I’m excited to formally introduce Microsoft Lync to the worldwide UC community, the new name for the next generation of the various ‘OCS’ products and services. See the official press release (here). and check also the UC TeamBlog for more background (info). We as MVP’s worked very closely with Microsoft the last months to build up this wonderful product. You can now download the official (RC) Release Candidate and we love to get your feedback. Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any questions. This is especially useful for the RTM milestone. Would you like to see a full featured demo please feel free to join e-office sometime. Important: There is no product support for this RC. You are welcome to share your trial experiences with others and to ask for advice by participating in the forums.

As soon as we can we are trying to upgrade all UCVUG.nl servers to support this (RC) version of the product. And of course we are trying to get this beast up and running before the next session of UCVUG on 20th of September 2010. See (here) for more information. 120 seats still available (free entrance).

Lync what does it mean?

In that sense, Lync – a combination of “link” and “sync” – is about connecting people in new ways, anytime, anywhere.  Now in the most ultimate way.

Description(s):

  1. Microsoft Lync Server 2010 provides complete presence, instant messaging, conferencing and enterprise voice capabilities through a single, easy-to-use interface that is consistent across PC, browser, and mobile device. You can Architect your deployment for high availability using data center resiliency and survivable branch appliances. Administrators benefit from a single, consistent management infrastructure, new capabilities to increase availability, and interoperability with existing systems. Administrators also use a new PowerShell-based foundation for administration consistent with Exchange Server, Active Directory, and other Microsoft server products.
  2. Microsoft Lync Server 2010, Planning Tool (RC) asks you a series of questions about your organization and the features that you are interested in. The planning tool will then use your answers to recommend a topology based on the tested Microsoft Lync Server 2010 user model. Your organization may have a different user model. If so, you should adjust the recommended topology as necessary to fit your organization’s needs.
  3. Microsoft Lync 2010 Attendee (User) is a conferencing client that allows users without Microsoft Lync 2010 installed, to participate in online meetings. If you are not an administrator on the computer but an administrator has allowed you to perform installations, you can install this application.
  4. Microsoft Lync 2010 Attendee (Admin) is a conferencing client that allows users without Microsoft Lync 2010 installed, to participate in online meetings. A user with an administrator account on the computer can install Lync 2010 Attendee so that users of the computer can join Microsoft Lync Server 2010-hosted meetings.

Microsoft Communications Server “14”: What’s New in Devices  (Plantronics)

UNC206: Microsoft Communications Online – Present and Future (Microsoft)

Communications Server "14" SIP Trunking with the Acme Packet Net-Net Session Director

File Name:
CS 14 with Acme Net-Net SD.doc

Version:
1.0

Date Published:
8/13/2010

Language:
English

Download Size:
4.3 MB

Estimated Download Time:
11 min 56K

Overview

Microsoft Communications Server “14” (CS “14”) offers the ability to connect to Internet telephony service providers (ITSP) using an IP-based SIP trunk. This reduces the cost and complexity of extending an enterprise’s telephony system outside its network borders. Acme Packet Net-Net Session Director (Net-Net SD) Session Border Controllers (SBCs) play an important role in SIP Trunking as they are used by many ITSPs as part of their SIP trunking infrastructure.
This step-by-step deployment guide has been prepared for the IP Telephony Service Provider as a means of ensuring that SIP trunking between CS “14” and Acme Packet SBCs is configured in the optimal manner. This guide can be used to support the SIP trunking reference topologies that are documented by Microsoft and Acme Packet in this TechNet article: Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Support for Acme Packet Session Border Controllers.
This document is intended for telecommunications engineers with the purpose of configuring both the Net-Net SD SBC and the CS “14” Mediation Server. There will be steps that require navigating Microsoft Windows Server as well as the Acme Packet Command Line Interface (ACLI). Understanding the basic concepts of TCP/UDP, IP/Routing, and SIP/RTP are also necessary to complete the configuration and for troubleshooting, if necessary.

Exchange Resource Scheduler (ERS)

  • Unified Communications Platform Link
  • Exchange Extensibility Link
  • Exchange Web Services Link

Unified Communications Summerschool 2010 (CS14)

Yes!

Joachim Farla, UC Community Engineer @e-office and Communications Server MVP.

Party responsible for the UC community within e-office trying to inspire people and just to be technical fellow in the worldwide UC community.

Introductie:

Get unified now!

De workshop ‘Unified Now with Unified Communications’ is speciaal gericht op IT decision makers.

e-office premier sponsor Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Connections Autumn Sept 2010

image A little bit of the record this time but put some attention on this blog post that e-office will be premier sponsor on SharePoint Connections 2010 later on this year. At e-office we closely collaborate with our technology partners (a.o.) IBM, Microsoft, Google and RIM. For the last year especially SharePoint 2010. For the past nineteen years we have been creating virtual working environments.

Technology alone is not enough for realising the ultimate form of collaboration. Also important are the working methods of employees and their physical working environment. We call this new way of working: work21. As you can see not only technology makes your work more efficiently. It’s you! Stay tuned on the corporate weblog of e-office to see the full lineup and our participation on SharePoint Connections 2010!

Makes it more wonderful that our partner AvePoint is also there (and also premium sponsor!). Feel free to ask at our booth if you have any questions on SharePoint migration, administration, replication etc. No issue we are there for any assistance.

Alexander KetelaarCheck out also the website of Alexander http://sharepoint2010.nl/ for more information and to see more information on one of our speakers at Connections (Alexander Ketelaar) speaking about NEN2082!

NB: No promise but it could happen I’m also there! Surprise! Follow us on twitter also http://twitter.com/e_office_com! So side questions about Unified Communications is also possible on our booth.
